From the CCHS ARCHIVES Civil War Soldier's Monument Undated Photo
~ In 1897, amidst loud objections from some county taxpayers, the
Civil War Soldier's Monument was placed in the park opposite the Courthouse.
It was the first monument
of its kind to be installed
in a public place in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
